Pitha and Payes are the tradition of present-day rural Bengal. Winter is an incomplete season without Pitha Payes. It would not be wrong to call winter the season of Pitha Payes. It never happens that there is no Pitha Payes in winter. Especially for Pitha Payes made with juice, winter is one of the most diverse seasons. There was a time when eating Pitha Payes made with date juice was a craze in the winter season. There was no house where Pitha Payes was not organized. In fact, winter was a tradition to bring the daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law and organize Pitha Payes and entertain guests.
The tradition of making pitha and payes with date juice is being lost with the passage of time. This generation is forgetting the taste of pitha and payes with date juice. To bring back the lost tradition of winter, the traditional Paikgachha Shibsa Sahitya Angan and Social Welfare Organization has organized the Pitha-Puli and Payes Festival. This exceptional event was organized by this literary and social welfare organization on Saturday afternoon. The organization prepared various types of pitha and payes including the tempting Chitai Pitha of date juice, Dudh Khejure Pitha, Pakoyan Pitha, Kuli Pitha, and Payes and served them to the members and invited guests. Poetry recitation and musical performances are added to this festival.
The event was presided over by the organization's president and former headmaster Suraiya Banu Dolly. Assistant Professor Sheikh Ruhul Quddus, headmaster and former women's vice chairman Anita Rani Mondal, freedom fighter Sardar Mohammad Nazim Uddin, former teacher Jinnatunnesa Panna, vice president of the press club Md. Abdul Aziz, NISCHA general secretary Ilias Hossain, former banker Bikasendu Sarkar, Panchanan Sarkar, Ansar and VDP trainer Altaf Hossain, Hafiza Khanam, Tonu, Momtaz Parvin Minu, Afra Nazlin and Syeda Tanha Jerin Mou were present.
