Schoolgirl killed in auto-hit accident in Kaukhali, Pirojpur.
It is learnt that Habiba (6), daughter of Kawsar Sharif, a timber trader from Gosantara village in Sadar Union of Kawkhali Upazila, was hit by an autorickshaw while she was standing on the side of the road near Kathalia bus stand on Kawkhali Naikati Road with her mother to pick up a relative on Wednesday morning, February 5. She was seriously injured and was rescued by locals and taken to Kawkhali Upazila Health Complex. When her condition deteriorated, she was sent to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where Habiba died during treatment in the afternoon.
Habiba was a first-grade student at the local Gosantara Government Primary School. The school's headmaster, Shyama Prasad, said, "Habiba was a good student and used to come to school regularly. She had a very calm nature."
Kaukhali Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Mostafizur Rahman said, "It is a very sad incident. People from different classes, including young students, are dying every day due to accidents caused by incompetent drivers and reckless driving." Officer-in-Charge of Kaukhali Police Station OC Md. Solaiman said, "The matter is being investigated and legal action will be taken if a case is filed."
Upazila Executive Officer Sajal Molla said, "The incident is very sad and tragic. Legal action will be taken against reckless auto drivers and incompetent drivers."
