Mahmuda, an assistant teacher at a primary school, has been accused of taking a bribe of 1.2 million taka on the pretext of getting a job at a primary school. Later, when she failed to get the job, she made various threats when she asked for the money back. In addition, the teacher is also accused of embezzling millions of taka from many others on the pretext of getting a job at a primary school.
According to the complaint, Shahnaz Parveen, daughter of Shahidul Islam of Subarnadaha village in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha, participated in the primary assistant teacher recruitment (Group-1) examination held on December 8, 2023. Her roll number is 3720934. But she failed. Meanwhile, Shahnaz Parveen's husband's family had a relationship with Mahmuda Begum, an assistant teacher at Chandpara Government Primary School, wife of Alam Mia of the same upazila, and they regularly visited their house. Due to that, Mahmuda Begum and her brother Rana Mia came to the house of job seeker Shahnaz Parveen and told flattering stories that they could get her a job. During this time, they also talked about their good relations with senior officials of the Department of Primary Education and the Department of Primary and Mass Education and demanded a total of 12 lakh taka for the job. Believing them, Shahnaz Parveen's educational qualification certificate along with the necessary documents and 10 lakh taka in cash were given to them. A few days later, Rana Mia was given 1 lakh 40 thousand 500 taka through mobile banking bKash on her number 01303989065. Later, when assistant teacher Mahmuda Begum and her brother Rana Mia were contacted, they said that all the documents related to the appointment have been finalized, and the appointment letter will be issued if the remaining 60 thousand taka is paid quickly. Shahnaz Parveen's family members became suspicious of their words. When they asked for the money back, Mahmuda and her brother Rana Mia started intimidating and threatening them in various ways.
Shahnaz Parveen said that all voice records and video footage of job-related conversations on mobile phones with assistant teacher Mahmuda and her brother Rana Mia have been preserved, which will prove the incident.
He further said that a written complaint has been filed with the OC of Sundarganj Police Station, Superintendent of Police and District Primary Education Officer regarding this incident. I am not the only victim of this fraud, many others have been like me. At this time, he demanded that action be taken against the fraudsters, including the return of his original certificates and money, which were with his brother and sister.
The accused assistant teacher, Mahmuda Begum, initially denied taking the money, but later admitted and said, "My brother took this money." In this regard, Sundarganj Police Station OC Abdul Hakim Azad said, "We have received such a complaint, and action will be taken after a prompt investigation."
District Primary Education Officer Nabej Uddin said on the phone that an investigation committee has been formed to look into the complaint. Necessary action will be taken once the report is received.
