Police have arrested Atshi Begum (55), an accused in the murder case of Sramik Dal leader Abdul Aziz alias Sona Sardar (60) in Sarishabari, Jamalpur. When she was sent to court on Sunday (February 9), the judge ordered her to be sent to jail.
According to local sources, Abdur Rashid and Abdus Salam Mia had been in a long-standing land dispute with Anisur and Liton doctors in the Chhataria Purbapara village of the upazila.
On February 7, a clash broke out between the two sides over the disputed land. When labor leader Abdul Aziz tried to stop the clash, the opposing group pushed him to the ground. As a result, he fell on a nearby spade and was seriously injured. Locals quickly took him to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The deceased's wife, Shirina Begum, filed a case with Sarishabari Police Station accusing 12 people in the incident. The police then conducted a raid and arrested Atshi Begum.
Chand Mia, officer-in-charge of Sarishabari Police Station, said, "Atshi Begum, the accused in the Abdul Aziz murder case, has been arrested. She has been sent to jail through the court."
