The administration removed the horizontal dam built to catch Jatka Hilsa in the Padma River of Mathabhanga village of Charbhadrasan upazila of Faridpur on Thursday. Since the dam is in the border area of the two upazilas, the Charbhadrasan and Sadarpur upazila administrations have jointly removed the dam, which is about one km in size. The dams, which are tied in rows in the Padma River, were removed by laborers and the administration removed the dam by cutting the fence surrounded by cheese netting in the lower part of the dam.
Charbhadrasan UNO Monira Khatun, Sadarpur UNO Zakia Sultana, Upazila Fisheries Officer Naeem Hossain Biplob, Mehedi Hasan, SI Mahmudul Hasan, UNO CA Sheikh Ujjal and Fisheries Office Field Assistant Shamim Arfin were present during the removal of the dam.
It is known that for the past 15 days, a local influential group has been constructing a dam by planting rows of bamboo in the middle of the two sand banks of the Padma River. About one kilometer between the two banks of the Padma River. A bamboo fence was built to block the passage of fish by surrounding the underwater part of the bamboo with nets. At some distance from the bamboo fence, giant net traps were being made and the Jatka Hilsa was being killed. Therefore, the administration removed the bamboo fence dam with people throughout the day on Thursday.
