A woman was hacked to death by miscreants after entering her house in Binodpur, Sadar Upazila of Noakhali. Although the police could not give a definite reason for the incident, it is initially believed that an unknown person committed the murder while trying to steal.
The incident took place at the house of Ali Ahmed Chaprashi of Jalyal village, ward number 9, Binodpur union of the upazila, at around 8 pm on Tuesday (February 24).
The deceased, Taslima Begum Rosie (60), was the daughter of Amin Ali of the house. She was abandoned by her husband and had one child.
According to police and local sources, Rosie lived alone in a room at her father's house. Rosie was staying in her room after dark. Suddenly, at around 8 pm, the neighbors heard a noise from her room. Later, they entered her room and found Rosie lying on the floor in a bloody state. A blood-stained blanket was lying next to her. Later, locals rushed her to a private hospital in the district town of Maizdi, where the doctor declared her dead. Upon receiving the information, the police visited the scene and recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for an autopsy.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdullah Al Faruk said that a young man named Md. Tarek (35) from the same village has been arrested as the main suspect in the murder and a blood-stained chapati has been recovered from the scene. The body has been sent to the hospital for autopsy. Police efforts are ongoing to unravel the mystery of the murder.
