Mostafizur Rahman, Gaibandha (Saghata, Fulchhari):
Former MP from Gaibandha-5 constituency and former president of the Chhatra League central committee, Mahmud Hasan Ripon, has been accused of land grabbing. Manjurul Hasan Sumon, a resident of Folia Digor village in the upazila, has made a written complaint in this regard and held a press conference.
At a press conference held at the Saghata Press Club on Saturday night, February 22, Sumon said that he purchased 22 percent of the land, of which 14.66 percent of his two brothers' land was purchased by Mahmud Hasan Ripon. However, he illegally occupied 7.33 percent of Sumon's land and used part of that land to build a road to a health center in the name of the former MP's mother.
Sumon further alleged that he did not get justice even after filing a complaint with the police station. He even complained to the court but did not get any redress. He also claimed that MP Ripon's close associates Khandaker Iqbal Hossain, Shariful Islam, Anwar Hossain, Ataur Rahman and Matiar Rahman Tuku attacked and vandalized his house and beat up women and children due to the complaint.
Suman has demanded a fair investigation and justice in this incident and sought the intervention of the relevant administration.
