S. K. Russell (Manikganj)
A rally and discussion meeting was held on Sunday (March 2) to mark National Voters' Day, organized by the Upazila Election Office in Daulatpur, Manikganj, with the theme 'Your Bangladesh is my Bangladesh, let's vote together'.
At 11:30 am, a rally was taken out to start the event, which circled the main roads of the upazila and ended at the Upazila Parishad premises. After the rally, the event was organized in the Upazila Parishad meeting room.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ahsanul Alam presided over the discussion meeting moderated by Upazila Election Officer Md. Nuruzzaman Hossain. In his speech, he said, “Voters’ awareness and participation keep democracy alive.”
"Voting is not only a right but also a responsibility for every citizen. We want everyone to create a beautiful and peaceful electoral environment. Voters can play a role in the development of the country through their valuable votes."
He further said, "Through National Voters' Day, we want to increase awareness among voters. Our goal is also to register new voters and include everyone in the voter list." The total number of voters in the upazila is 154,191, of which 77,771 are male voters, 76,420 are female voters and 0 are transgender.
Among others present at the time were Assistant Election Officer Md. Saddam Hossain, Social Service Officer Md. Masudur Rahman, Fisheries Officer Suraiya Akhter Tanni, Secondary Education Officer Md. Jahangir Firoz, Upazila Press Club Executive Member Aminul Islam, Journalists Association Joint General Secretary S.K. Russell and local dignitaries.
