Joypurhat District Representative:
A college student, Sumaiya Akhter (17), has been on a hunger strike at her boyfriend's house for three days demanding marriage in Shivasumadra village of Kalai Matrai Union in Joypurhat. The college student herself confirmed the matter on Friday (February 15). A complaint has been filed with Kalai Police Station in this regard.
Meanwhile, the boyfriend A. Momin has been absconding since the incident. The absconding boyfriend Abdul Momin is an expatriate. He came home after taking leave from expatriation and lured the college student to marry him. Momin spent the night at his own house on a motorcycle from in front of the college hostel gate at 7 am (February 12) and fled, leaving the college student alone at home. In this incident, the girl has been on a hunger strike at the house of expatriate Abdul Momin for the last three days demanding marriage.
Locals said that the college student had been staying at her boyfriend's house for three days demanding marriage. But since her boyfriend, Momin, is absconding, her relatives have kept the student at Momin's house. This has created a stir in the area.
The victim, college student Sumaiya Akhter, said that two years ago, she developed a love relationship with A. Momin, son of A. Razzak of Shibasmudra village of Matrai union of the upazila, over the phone. Since we were from the same area, we often met at different places. Last (February 12), he promised to marry me and brought me to Momin's house, had physical intercourse with me, and left me behind, saying that he would go to the market in the morning, and then escaped.
Meanwhile, A. Momin's father, Md. A. Razzak, admitted the truth of the incident and said, "The matter will be resolved locally when my son returns home."
College student father Hashem Ali said, "Since the girl understands her good and bad, is an educated girl, studies in college, and is a believer, he took her home with the promise of marriage and ran away, leaving my daughter behind. I have filed a complaint with the police station. Whatever honor is going to go, it is gone. Let the boy come home, we will resolve the matter locally and arrange for the marriage."
When repeated attempts were made to contact the mobile phone used by accused Abdul Mumin in this regard, it was not possible to get his statement as it was switched off. Responsible sources said that Mumin fled abroad through Shahjalal International Airport at night.
Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahid Hossain said that he has received a written complaint in this regard and legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
