Joypurhat District Representative:
Local excited people handed over Toufiqul Islam Touhid, the convener of the Upazila Chhatra League and former councilor of Kalai Municipality, who was hiding in Kalai, Joypurhat, to the police after a mob lynching.
On Monday (February 24) at 10 pm, the Chhatra League leader was arrested while hiding in his father-in-law Fazle Elahi Tota's house in Biala village of Matrai Uni in Kalai upazila and was first subjected to a public washout. Later, he was handed over to the police.

Locals said that Toufiqul Islam Touhid is the convener of the Kalai Upazila branch of the banned student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League and also served as a former councilor of Kalai Municipality. Touhid is the son of Motaleb Hossain of Purbapara Mohalla of Kalai Municipality. It is said that there are several cases against him, including murder during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5 and a case under the Explosives Act.
BNP leader Dade Elahi Lablu said, Taufiqul Islam became the councilor of Ward No. 2 of Kalai Municipality by stealing votes as a convener of Chhatra League. Starting from tender rigging, he has collected money by solving several local family conflicts and rape cases. His father has only 4.5 bighas of property, four brothers and one sister. He used to move like a king. He used to change a motorcycle every two months. His source of income and bank account are over crores of taka. The Awami League government, while in power, tortured people physically and mentally due to its tyranny and arrogance of power. We want justice for this.
Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur Alam said that there are separate cases against Toufiqul Islam Touhid at Sadar Police Station and DB. He will be sent to jail after the legal process is completed.
District Detective Branch DB (OC) Md. Asaduzzaman said that he was shown arrested in murder and explosives cases during the anti-discrimination student movement.
