A woman named Ruma Khatun (21) was stabbed to death by her husband in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj. Police have arrested the killer, her husband Sohag Sheikh (28).
The murder took place in the early hours of Thursday (February 20) in Murutia village of Kayempur union of the upazila. The killer, Sohag Sheikh, is the son of Afsar Pramanik of the village.
Abdul Majid, a village police officer in Ward No. 6 of Kayempur Union, said, "I learned in the morning that a girl had been slapped to death by her husband, a char. Later, when I went to the scene, I saw knife wounds on her neck and chest. Later, when I reported the matter to the police station, the police came and arrested the killer husband."
Locals said that the husband and wife had been arguing for some time. They used to argue occasionally. They believe that the murder could have been committed over these issues.
The deceased Ruma's brother-in-law said that since marriage, Sohag had been beating her and mentally torturing her on various issues. Two days ago, the in-laws brought her from Tola. Today, I came and saw her body. She had planned the murder. I want exemplary punishment for this murder.
Shahjadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aslam Ali confirmed the incident. He said that after learning about the incident, the husband was arrested at the scene. He confessed to stabbing his wife to death during initial interrogation. A case has been filed against him in this incident and the body is being sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. ##
