Md. Rezaul Haque Shakil, Brahmanpara:
The upazila administration is taking a strict stance to control the prices of essential commodities, maintain free supply and keep the market stable in Brahmanpara, Comilla during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. The upazila administration is working hard to ensure that the market remains stable during Ramadan.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mahmuda Jahan made this statement while addressing the monthly meeting of the Law and Order Committee organized by the upazila administration at the Upazila Parishad auditorium on Monday (February 17) afternoon.
At the time, he said, every year during Ramadan, unscrupulous traders increase the prices of all essential commodities. Many traders stock up on many essential commodities before Ramadan. They sell these commodities at high prices during Ramadan. As a result, the common people are suffering from the unbridled prices of commodities during Ramadan. In addition, iftar items are prepared and sold in an unhygienic and dirty environment. The administration has started working from the first Ramadan to prevent such a situation from arising this time.
UNO Mahmuda Jahan said that market monitoring activities have also been strengthened. On-site monitoring is being done to see whether goods are being bought and sold at the prescribed price. Action will be taken against anyone who sells goods beyond the prescribed price or adulterated goods through mobile courts.
In addition, the speakers at the meeting discussed various issues aimed at preventing drugs, smuggling, eve-teasing, child marriage, waste management, theft, robbery, and criminal activities.
