Sherpur Correspondent,
A poor farming family in Sribardi, Sherpur, has been deprived of their land and crops for five years due to the terrorist activities of an Awami League leader.
According to local sources, Mosharraf Hossain Fatik, the president of Ward No. 9 of the Awami League in Ranishimul Union of the upazila, has enjoyed political benefits for a long time, openly threatening to kill people in the area, and has established land grabbing and various other injustices. He has been continuing his misdeeds freely since the change in power of the fascist government on July 5. Consumer Delwar Hossain said, I am an innocent person. In 2020, Mosharraf Hossain Phatik tried to kill my wife by creating a family problem and stabbing her in the throat. My wife survived for a short while. Since then, he has been attacking us with a stick. We used to take shelter in the surrounding areas out of fear. Phatik openly threatened that if we cultivate crops on our land and cropland, he will kill us and bury us in the ground. We have been taking shelter in someone else's house for the past 5 years due to his fear. My two sons and their wives, along with six others, are living an inhuman life in a house in someone else's house. Phatik openly threatened to kill me if I go to my house or cropland. With that threat, he has been occupying all my cropland for the past 5 years.
Shirina Begum of Dhanshail village said, "Phatik has been issuing various threats for illegally occupying my 16 katha land. I am not able to cultivate the land due to fear, I want justice for it."
Ashiq Mia of Ranishimul village said, "Fatik had planned to kill me, but God is protecting me for a while, I am still living in fear."
Meherunnesa of Chankanda village said, "The Phatik is very greedy and deceitful. He has deprived me of my father's ancestral property. He is also threatening me in various ways when I come to retrieve the land."
Many people, who do not wish to be named, say that many do not dare to speak out for fear of Phatik, who is always well-equipped with indigenous weapons.
Anwar Zahid, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Sribardi Police Station, said that he has not received a written complaint in this regard, but action will be taken if a complaint is received.
