(Joypurhat) District Representative:
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asif Al Jinat has fined two people Tk 150,000 for illegally digging a pond in a field in Joypurhat, selling soil and damaging a road.
It is learnt that on December 11, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jinatul Ara fined Afsar Ali Mandal, son of Moslem Uddin of Vasila Paschimpara Mohalla of Khetlal Municipality, Tatanagara fifty thousand taka for digging the pond and forbidding him from digging the pond and selling the soil. When he started digging the same pond illegally again after disobeying his ban, Upazila Executive Officer Asif Al Jinat arrested Kalam Fakir (55), son of Jabbar Fakir of Bhabki village of Kalai Upazila, and sentenced him to one month in jail for failing to pay the fine of fifty thousand taka. One day, Saiful Islam of Koralgari village had been illegally digging the pond with an excavator (veku) machine and selling the soil in different places in that area for a long time by truck. This destroyed the rural roads in that area. The dust caused inconvenience to the public due to the soil falling on the main paved road of the upazila. On Wednesday, February 12, at 5 pm, the Executive Magistrate conducted a raid on the spot with the police force on charges of obstructing the movement of vehicles on that road and fined pond owner Saiful Islam Tk 100,000 and shop owner Kalam Fakir Tk 50,000 and released them.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asif Al Jinat said that some soil sellers in Khetlal Upazila were digging ponds illegally. Two people have been fined for selling soil on such allegations.
