A local land grabber named Mostafizur Rahman has built multiple buildings on the government Toha Bazar land in Niamati Bazar of Bakerganj Upazila of Barisal, ignoring the government rules and regulations and the administration's ban. Mostafizur Rahman Howlader has started the work of illegally constructing 5 houses on the land of 245th spot, whose category is road, and 255th spot, whose category is Toha Bazar, registered in SA 1 Khatian of JL No. 11 Niamati Mouza of Niamati Union under Bakerganj Upazila, ignoring the court's ban.
Local Md. Rustom Ali Hawladar filed a written complaint with the Union Land Officer on this matter. Later, he filed a case in the court of the learned Additional District Magistrate of Barisal, which is Case No. 03/22. In view of the complaint and on the instructions of the learned court, the Union Assistant Land Officer conducted an on-site investigation on the instructions of the then Upazila Former Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abuzar Md. Ijazul Haque and submitted an investigation report on March 7, 2022. On March 26 of that year, the report signed by the former Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abuzar Md. Ijazul Haque was sent to the court of the learned Additional District Magistrate of Barisal. The learned court ordered both parties to leave the government land and leave the government land on May 25. Recently, Mostafizur Rahman, with the help of a syndicate including the Kanungo of the Upazila Land Office, resumed the construction of 5 illegal houses on that land in the dark of day and night. A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that several illegal structures are being constructed on government land in Toha Bazar, a shelter of an upazila leader, in exchange for a large sum of money, in collusion with several dishonest officials of the upazila land office.
In this regard, Union Land Officer Murad Hossain said that on the advice of the Upazila Executive Officer, he has served a notice to the person to stop working on government land. If a building is constructed on government land, further action will be taken on the instructions of higher authorities.
When asked about the illegal construction work on the government Toha Bazar land after ignoring the instructions of the upazila administration for a long time and suddenly taking advantage of the opportunity, Upazila Executive Officer Rumana Afroz told the media that she was informed about the matter through journalists. She asked Mostafizur Rahman to meet her with the necessary documents. She also said that if illegal structures are built on the government Toha Bazar land, the structures will be demolished.
