A dismissed army member named Md. Al-Amin tied his mother to a betel nut tree and set fire to her house in Indurkani, Pirojpur. Indurkani police have arrested him on this charge. Alamin was arrested on Monday (February 10) morning and sent to Pirojpur court, said Md. Maruf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Indurkani police station.
The accused, Al Amin (26), is the son of Joynal Kazi of Pattashi Union in Indurkani Upazila.
Al Amin's father, Joynal Kazi, filed a case against his son at Indurkani Police Station and was arrested from Pattashi Bazar on Sunday night.
According to local sources, Md. Al-Amin, son of Joynal Kazi of Charni Pattashi village of the upazila, was dismissed from the army in 2024 due to complaints from his first wife about women. Later, due to Al-Amin's character problems, his second wife also divorced him and left. Al-Amin started blaming his father for these matters. On Sunday morning, Al-Amin came home from Chittagong and started going around with a knife to kill his father. When the locals informed the police, Al-Amin fled when the police of Indurkani police station went to his house. Later, Al-Amin got agitated and dragged his mother out of the house, tied her to a betel nut tree and set the house on fire.
Joynal Kazi said, "We are upset that the house was set on fire. We filed a case out of frustration over our son's torture. I don't want to say anything more than that."
Indurkani Police Station (OC) Md. Maruf Hossain said that the accused in the incident, dismissed army member Al-Amin, was arrested last night. He was sent to jail through the court after his father's case was concluded.
