There are allegations of widespread irregularities in the Dhopadanga UP Land Office No. 8 of Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha, embezzling money from the common people.
When ordinary land owners go to the Dhopadanga UP land office for land rejection and rent council, Assistant Land Officer (Tehsildar) Mokhlesur Rahman is making a huge cash transaction using various excuses.
Ordinary land owners told the media that when they went to the Dhopadanga UP land office to reject the land, (Tehsildar) Mokhlesur Rahman said that if they wanted to reject it, they should talk to Ahad, and after Ahad made a big contract with the land owner, (Tehsildar) recommended rejection.
In this way, the boss extorts a minimum of 8,000 to 10,000 taka per rejection. Not only here, rejection and rent are the tools to empty the pockets of ordinary ignorant landowners. The irregularities do not stop here, they extort money in different ways from the people who come to the rent council.
He collected the total rent for various spots and gave a rent receipt for one spot. When asked about the other spots, he gave various excuses and said that he would make the next correction.
When the news worker spoke to Tehsildar Md. Mokhlesur Rahman about this, he said that all the people who come to the land office for services bring brokers with them, but I don't have any brokers of my own.
When asked about the issue of a receipt for the total amount of money received and the proposal to dismiss the tax, he could not give any answer.
When asked who Ahad was from the land office, he said that Ahad applied for rent online. When asked about Ahad's appointment, no answer was received.
When talking to Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Masudur Rahman about the issue of eviction and rent, he told the media worker that he asked the Upazila administration to cooperate in catching the brokers of the Union Land Office. He said that the government fee for eviction is Tk 1,150, and there is no scope to charge more.
If there is clear evidence that the office is defrauding the common people, the upazila administration will take action against them.
