Motorcycle rider Tara Mia (38) and pickup van helper Agjat (30) were killed in separate road accidents in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha district, last night.
Tara Mia is the son of Hasen Ali of Mogaltuli village in Kamardah union of Gobindaganj upazila. The identity of the unidentified person has not been found till the time of writing this report.
It is learnt that an unidentified pickup helper was killed on the spot after being hit by a Dhaka-bound bus in Chapriganj area of Gobindaganj upazila on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway at around 10:15 pm on Saturday. On the other hand, a motorcycle rider named Tara Mia was killed after he collided with a road divider in the 18th mile area of Phansitala in Gobindaganj upazila on the highway at around 8:30 pm.
Fire service personnel and locals said that at around 10:15 pm, a Dhaka-bound vegetable pickup truck overturned on the highway due to overloading in the Chapriganj area. Later, a Dhaka-bound bus hit the overturned pickup truck from behind. The pickup's helper died on the spot. The driver fled after leaving the pickup behind. In addition, at around 8:15 pm, a motorcycle driver lost control in the 18-mile area of Phansitla and hit a road divider on the highway. The driver, Tara Mia (38), died on the spot.
Firefighter Asaduzzaman Sourav of the Gobindaganj Fire Service Unit told reporters that the Highway Police recovered the bodies of the two deceased and took them to the police station. The identity of the deceased motorcycle rider has been known, but the identity of the pickup helper has not been found.
