Police are arresting Rafiqul Islam Robin, the leader of an inter-district dacoit gang, in Ramganj Upazila of Lakshmipur after he was shot. He was later admitted to Ramganj Upazila Health Complex in an injured condition.
He was arrested from Rakhalia area on Lakshmipur-Raipur road before Tuesday evening. A foreign pistol, two rounds of bullets and a motorcycle were recovered from him. There are 13 cases against him at Ramganj police station, including murder and robbery. Robin is the leader of an inter-district robber gang listed by the police, according to the police.
Police said that Rafiqul Islam alias Robin, son of Shamsun Nur Patwari of Changirgaon area of Ramganj upazila, was absconding for a long time. On Tuesday afternoon, Robin was staying in Rakhalia area with weapons. Based on such information, the police launched an operation in the area. At that time, Robin tried to open fire after sensing the presence of the police. At one stage, the police fired one round of bullets. Robin was shot and arrested. A foreign pistol and two rounds of bullets were recovered from him. He was rescued and admitted to Ramganj Upazila Health Complex.
Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abul Basar confirmed the incident and said, "Robber Rafiqul Islam Robin has been admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Robin is the leader of an inter-district robber gang registered by the police. There are 13 cases against him. Currently, preparations are underway for another case under the Arms Act."
