Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum said, "If any election is held in Bangladesh without reforms and resorting to fraud, the people will not accept it." He told the interim government, "You will bid farewell with honor by conducting necessary reforms, under a non-partisan, impartial caretaker government, and by holding a beautiful, fair, participatory, and acceptable election."
He made these remarks while addressing the protest rally organized as the chief guest at the Shaheed Minar premises in Maizdi town of Noakhali on Tuesday (February 18) at around 4:30 pm. The Noakhali District Jamaat organized the protest rally and mass procession demanding the release of former acting secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ATM Azharul Islam.
He said, "Our leaders have been hanged by announcing a war crime verdict through the Skype scandal. In the name of justice, the leaders of the Islamic movement of this country have been killed. Thus, a death sentence has been given against Azharul Islam."
Referring to the interim government, he said, "It seems to us that those around the chief advisor of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, are not allowing Dr. Yunus to walk on the right path. Today, we have been forced to call for a mass procession across the country to realize our demands. The interim government has said that it will judge all the injustices of the dictatorial government. Why are you not doing it till now? What is stopping you from moving forward? Tell the nation about it. If necessary, we will take to the streets again. Immediately release Azharul Islam."
He further said, "In Bangladesh, the Communist Party will continue, the Awami League will continue, various political parties will continue, Jamaat-e-Islami has been formed to establish the law of the Quran and Sunnah. Why are you still preventing the registration of that Jamaat-e-Islami? Then is there a ghost of tyranny there too? You should cast out all these ghosts. You should remove the ghost of tyranny from the neck of the nation. Otherwise, the way the people of this country have taken a stand against tyranny, the people will be forced to go from a place of respect to a place of protest and demonstration in your case too. Jamaat-e-Islami's registration should be returned."
ATM Masum, strongly criticizing the Awami regime, said, "The prisons and courts of Bangladesh were controlled by the Delhi government. The Supreme Court, High Court, and Judge Court did not play a role in protecting the rights of the people of Bangladesh. They conducted the trial according to India's wishes. There was no case against ATM Azharul Islam, they fabricated a false case."
The rally, chaired by Noakhali District Nayeb-e-Amir Principal Maulana Syed Ahmed, was also addressed by District Secretary Maulana Borhan Uddin. Other speakers included Comilla-Noakhali Regional Team member former Noakhali District Amir Maulana Ala Uddin, Central Majlis Sura member and District Nayeb-e-Amir Maulana Nizam Uddin Faruk, District Assistant Secretary Maulana Delwar Hossain, Md. Ismail Hossain Manik, Noakhali District Bar Association President Advocate Tajul Islam, Workers Welfare Federation Noakhali District President Advocate Zahirul Alam, Noakhali City Amir Maulana Md. Yusuf, Chhatra Shibir Central Executive Council Member, Noakhali City President Habibur Rahman Arman, etc.
