A schoolgirl named Rumana Akhter (14) committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in a rural area of Saidpur, Nilphamari. The incident took place on Thursday (February 20) evening in Khordd Botlagari village of Botlagari union of the upazila. Police sent the body to the Nilphamari morgue for an autopsy on Friday (February 21).
Rumana Akhter Khorda is the daughter of Md. Kafil Uddin and Shamima Begum of Botlagari village. She is a ninth-grade student of Botlagari High School. On Thursday evening, without the knowledge of her family, she committed suicide by hanging herself by tying her headscarf around her neck with the lintel of the bathroom.
Later, when the family members came to know about the hanging, they quickly took her to the 100-bed hospital in Syedpur. But the doctor on duty in the emergency department there declared her dead. On receiving the information, the police went to the hospital and prepared a post-mortem report of the school girl's body.
Later, the body was brought to the police station. However, it is not known why the schoolgirl committed suicide by hanging herself. The body was sent to the Nilphamari morgue for an autopsy on Friday to find out the mystery of the death.
Saidpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Faim Uddin confirmed the death of the school girl. He said that an unnatural death (UD) case has been filed at the police station in this incident.
