Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day 2025 were celebrated in Saltha, Faridpur with various events. On Friday (February 21st) at 9:30 am, a discussion meeting, prize distribution and prayer mahfil were held in the conference room of the Upazila Parishad organized by the Upazila administration.
The morning procession left the Upazila Parishad premises at 9 am and circled the main roads before ending at the starting point. Earlier, at 12:01 am in the first hour, wreaths were laid and tributes were paid at the Shahid Minar of the Upazila Parishad.
The program was presided over by Upazila Executive Officer Md. Anisur Rahman Bali and moderated by Secondary Education Officer Binoy Kumar Chaki, and Assistant Commissioner Land Md. Masum Billah was present.
Among others present were Saltha Government College Principal Krishna Chandra Barman, Saltha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ataur Rahman, Upazila Jamaat Amir Maulana Abul Fazal Murad, etc. In addition, various teachers and students, including officials and employees of various departments, were present.
It is worth mentioning that on this day in 1952, the then East Pakistan government imposed Section 144 in Dhaka to suppress the language movement. Students protested against the imposition of Section 144 and took out a procession. The Pakistani army opened fire on the procession. Rafiq, Shafiq, Salam, Barkat, Jabbar and many others were martyred in the firing. In their memory, everyone came in front of this Shaheed Minar and paid their humble respects. The altar of the minar was covered with flowers of respect and love.
