A terrible fire broke out in the Ekushey More area of Pogaldigha Union in Sarishabari Upazila of Jamalpur. Two houses and two shops were completely burnt down, but a Quran Sharif remained intact. The victims claimed that the fire caused a loss of about 3.5 million taka.
The fire broke out at Mannan Mia's house on Monday (February 3) morning. Locals said the fire spread suddenly, and within moments, two nearby shops selling fertilizers, pesticides and cottage industries belonging to Solaiman Hossain also caught fire. Locals tried to control the fire but failed. Later, the Sarishabari Fire Service was informed and two units reached the spot and brought the fire under control in an hour.
Victim Solaiman Hossain said that all the goods and furniture of his fertilizer and pesticide shop and cottage industry shop were burnt in the fire, with an estimated loss of Tk 3 million.
In this regard, Shahidul Islam, Senior Station Officer of Sarishabari Fire Service, said, "It is believed that the fire started from an electrical short circuit. However, surprisingly, a Quran Sharif was found intact in this terrible fire, which has aroused curiosity among the locals."
