Staff Correspondent | Srimangal, (Moulvibazar), 04 February 2025: Allegations of harassment of two landless families by influential groups in Srimangal have been received.
Suruj Mia, son of the deceased Manu Mia of Uttar Boulachara village, Mirzapur Union No. 1 of the upazila, and his family members made this allegation at a press conference at the Srimangal Press Club on Tuesday (February 4, 2025) afternoon.
In a written statement at the press conference, he said that his father was the owner and occupant of 21st century land in Jatrapasha Mouza of Mirzapur Union by way of purchase. For some reason, that 21st century land went into the government's Khas record during the RS survey in 1988. Later, they received a lease settlement for 99 years from Sarkar Bahadur in the quota of landless people based on two sub-cobla registration documents 2919/21 and 2925/21. They are occupying the land by building houses and growing crops on that 21st century land by way of inheritance and settlement.
But Mira Das Gang, wife of Mangal Lal Ravidas of the same union, filed a case against them in court and accused them of looting their crops. Mira Das is trying to evict them from their land and take over their land by creating fake documents. Their opponents are very influential and wealthy. They are worried about their lives.
He said that Mira Das held a press conference at the Moulvibazar Press Club on January 30 by presenting false information. They protested against it for making defamatory statements. At that time, he also said that Mira Das said in that press conference that they are landless! In fact, they are not landless. Rather, they have immovable property worth about 15 to 20 crore taka in Mirzapur Bazar and its surroundings. Rather, he and his family members are landless. He said that they have no other property except that 21st century place.
When contacted on Mira Das' mobile phone in this regard, the call was not received.
Mirzapur Union Chairman Mislu Ahmed told me that Suruj Mia Gangder Sarkar Bahadur leased the land as landless but Mira Das filed a case in court claiming ownership of the land. I have advised both parties to fight the legal battle in court to maintain peace and order.
In this regard, Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Srimangal Police Station, said that if any complaint is received, legal action will be taken after investigating the matter.
