Two people have been arrested along with illegally lifted sand and a truck in a drive by the Srimangal Police Station. They were arrested during a drive along the Srimangal-Habiganj highway in the West Loyarkul area of Bhunbir Union of the upazila.
Sreemangal Police Station SI Abdur Rahim Jiban confirmed the raid and arrest on Saturday (February 15), saying, "Yesterday (February 14) a raid was conducted with the police force and two people named Nur Alam (30) and Faruk Mia (40) were arrested. At that time, 400 cubic feet of illegally lifted silica sand was seized from a 12-ton truck (Dhaka Metro-T-13-6544), whose estimated value is 8,000 taka."
He further said, "The arrested persons were illegally extracting sand from various government plots, lands and Hail Haors in Srimangal, which is very harmful to the environment. A regular case has been filed against them and handed over to the court."
