Shanto Shifat, Jhenaigati (Sherpur) Correspondent: Police have arrested three members of a gang of robbers in a raid in Uttar Panbar area of Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur. Jhenaigati police station conducted the raid on Thursday (February 13) based on a secret tip-off.
The arrested are Anwar Hossain alias Anu (38), son of Manjurul Haque of Sarikalinagar in Jhenaigati, Mokhlesur Rahman (35), son of A. Rahman of Kurigram, and Jahan Uddin (35), son of Shahajan of Khuti village in Mungla, Kurigram. Local weapons including a ramda and a knife have been recovered from them.
Police said the arrested individuals were planning to rob the Ghazni Recreation Center and surrounding areas. Law enforcement agencies became active and conducted the operation after thefts and robberies increased in Ghazni picnic spots and other areas in recent times.
Jhenaigati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Al Amin said, "We conducted this operation under the direction of Sherpur Police Superintendent Aminul Islam. A regular case has been filed against them and will be sent to court tomorrow. Besides, it is being investigated whether any locals are associated with the arrested people."
It is worth noting that a recent increase in theft and robbery incidents in the Ghazni tourist area has spread panic among local residents. Police said their operations to curb such crimes will continue.
