Staff Correspondent | Srimangal (Moulvibazar), 16 February 2025: A victim of Srimangal has filed a false complaint of harassment. She held a press conference to get relief from the harassment.
Md. Zafar Ali held a press conference at the Srimangal Press Club against a BNP leader this Sunday (February 16, 2025) at noon. The victim is the son of the deceased Akbar Ali of Islampur village in Srimangal upazila.
In a written statement at the press conference, Md. Zafar Ali said, "I/We have called this press conference today to inform the public administration, police administration and the public through you and to receive all kinds of cooperation to save Sheikh Md. Jasim Uddin (42), son of Sheikh Md. Jitu Mia of Srigaon village, Sindurkhan Union No. 4, Srimangal Upazila, from the clutches of him."
At the press conference, he said that Sheikh Jasim Uddin, a member of the Srimangal Upazila Convenor Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former joint secretary of the Moulvibazar district branch of the BNP's affiliate organization JASAS, is harassing and intimidating people by filing cases.
In this press conference, Md. Zafar Ali also said that Md. Hafizur Rahman, a French expatriate, started the work of the farm by building a boundary wall in Sharergaj Mouza. The responsibility of the farm was given to his elder brother Mohibur Rahman and cousin (I am the press conference speaker) Zafar. When the workers went to work at the farm, Sheikh Jasim Uddin created a barrier and demanded a ransom of 2 lakh taka. And threatened to demolish the farm if the demanded money was not paid. Although the matter was informed to local dignitaries, since it could not be resolved, Md. Hafizur Rahman, a French expatriate, filed a case against Sheikh Jasim Uddin (35), Sheikh Wasim Uddin (30), Sheikh Kabir Uddin (40) and 4/5 unknown persons in the learned Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court, Moulvibazar (CR- Case No. 373/2024 (Sri.). The learned court directed the PBI, Moulvibazar to investigate the case. After receiving the truth of extortion and intimidation to work in the farm, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigating officer of the case, after a long investigation, after finding the truth of the allegations, submitted an investigation report against Sheikh Jasim Uddin to the learned Senior Judicial Magistrate, No. 2, Moulvibazar, court. Currently, the case is pending in the learned court. CR case against Sheikh Jasim Uddin No. 369/24 (Sri), Executive Magistrate Court Case No. 320/24 (Sri), Cyber Case No. 242/24 (plaintiff of the case - Md. Parvez Mia) and several other cases are pending and under investigation in the learned court. But, it is sad but true - Sheikh Jasim Uddin, out of revenge, has indulged in a vile plot to harass, financially and mentally harm us and filed a political case in the Moulvibazar Senior Judicial Magistrate No. 2 Administrative Court, mentioning the date and time of the incident as 05/02/2018, time 5 pm, place: Srimangal Chaumuhana (Mong- No. CR- 55/2025, (Sri). Former Agriculture Minister of the dictatorial government Md. Abdus Shahid (70) was named as the first accused, along with a total of 37 names and 50/60 other unknown names. I was listed as the 10th accused, listed as a ward member of the Awami League. A case was filed against him (Cyber Case No. 242/24) Md. Parvez Mia as accused number 12, Md. Nurul Islam (40), the sister-in-law of Md. Hafizur Rahman, a French expatriate, as accused number 13, Md. Hafizur Rahman, a young industrialist expatriate in France (the plaintiff in the case filed against Jasim in the court), as accused number 16, his elder brother Muhibur Rahman (witness in the case filed against Jasim in the court) as accused number 17, my cousin (witness) Md. Dulal Mia as accused number 23, my sister-in-law (witness in the case filed against Jasim in the court) as accused number 24, and Md. Rajan Mia, the plaintiff in the case filed against him for blindfolding and torturing Ganche and recording the video, as accused number 25. The learned court has directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Moulvibazar, to investigate the political case and submit a report.
He further said, Sheikh Jasim has mentioned the date and time of filing the political case in the learned court as 05/02/2018. However, at that time, the 16th accused, a young industrialist and expatriate from France, Md. Hafizur Rahman, was staying in France. The 2nd accused, Md. Sanur Mia, was staying in Saudi Arabia. I was recorded as a ward member of the Awami League and mentioned as the 10th accused. However, I am not a member of that party. He will not be able to provide that proof. I and my family have always been victims of torture and oppression at the hands of the Awami League people. Accused No. 12 is Md. Parvez Mia (plaintiff in the case filed against Jasim in the cyber court), accused No. 13 is Md. Nurul Islam, the sister-in-law of Md. Hafizur Rahman, a French expatriate (witness in the case filed against Jasim), accused No. 17 is Muhibur Rahman, the elder brother of Md. Hafizur Rahman, a French expatriate (witness in the case filed against Jasim), accused No. 23 is my cousin Dulal Mia, accused No. 24 is Md. Shipon Mia (witness in the case filed against Jasim), and accused No. 25 is Md. Rajan Mia, the plaintiff in the case filed against him for the incident of blindfolding and videotaping torture against him.
At the press conference, he said that Sheikh Jasim Uddin is using party positions and titles to harass and intimidate us.
The victim, Md. Fajr Ali, said, "I and my family are suffering from insecurity due to various threats from Sheikh Jasim Uddin and his forces."
