The upazila administration has conducted a drive to evict illegally constructed shops and establishments on both sides of the road in the Bishwa Road area of Sarail on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway to relieve traffic congestion.
Sarail Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Mosharraf Hossain conducted the drive from morning to noon on Sunday (March 2).
Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mukta Goswami, Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Rafiqul Hasan, and Khatihata Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Mamun Rahman assisted in the operation.
The drive to evict illegal structures built on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, occupying the land of the Roads and Urban Development Division, began in the morning. The drive continued along the Comilla-Sylhet highway until noon. During this time, more than 200 illegally built structures and shops were demolished.
During the eviction drive, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Mosharraf Hossain said, "The encroachers were obstructing the movement of transport and pedestrians by setting up shops along the highway along with illegal parking. This eviction drive was carried out to keep the highway free of traffic congestion and avoid road accidents. Our drive will continue to keep the highway free of traffic congestion."
