Fatema Begum (30), the son's wife, has been accused of cutting her father-in-law's private parts with a blade due to a family dispute. In this incident, the police took the son's wife to the police station for questioning at night.
The incident occurred in Ghoraghat Upazila of Dinajpur at around 9 pm on Saturday (February 8).
The seriously injured Shah Jamal Pramanik (65) is currently undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex. His home is in Birahimpur Guch village area of Singra Union No. 3 of the upazila.
The son's wife, Fatema Begum, said that she got married to her father-in-law's eldest son, Monir Pramanik, about fifteen years ago. Since then, she has been living in her husband's house with her three children in the Garh area of Baropaika in the same union. Her husband is a laborer by profession. Later, while living there, her husband incurred a debt of about two to three lakh taka. Two months ago, her husband sold the house and paid off the debt. Later, as he had no place to stay, his father-in-law brought them to his own house and arranged for them to live next to the kitchen.
At that time, her husband Monir left her with her three children and went to another district for work. After a few days, she had a fight with her mother-in-law and father-in-law over where to stay and asked her to leave the house. They often threatened to throw her out of the house by doing immoral things to her. Seven days ago, her husband Monir returned home. This has become more extreme over the past three days. Last Saturday night, at one point during the fight, when no one was home, her father-in-law Shahjamal started abusing her in foul language. Then, he dragged her to the bedroom and tried to do immoral things to her. At that time, he cut off Shahjamal's penis with a blade he had kept with him.
Later, upon hearing his screams, people went to the room, rescued Shahjamal in a bloody state, and took him to the Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex.
In this regard, Ahsan Habib, a doctor at the emergency department at Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex, said that at 10:45 pm on Saturday, the injured Shahjamal Pramanik was brought to the Upazila Health Complex by his family members. About 4 centimeters of the base of his penis was cut. This caused a lot of bleeding. Eight stitches were given to the penis. He is now under observation.
Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Haque said that the police visited the scene after receiving information that a man named Shahjamal Pramanik had his penis cut off in the Guchchagram area of Birahimpur in Ghoraghat Upazila. The injured Shahjamal Pramanik is undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex. The wife of Shahjamal Pramanik's son has been taken to the police station for initial questioning.
