Humayon Kabir Miraj: On the occasion of Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day, workers of Benapole Land Port Handling Workers Union 925 have paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the historic language movement.
On Thursday (February 20), at 12:01 am, all the workers leaders of the land port, including General Secretary of Benapole Land Port Handling Workers Union 925, Md. Shahid Ali, paid tribute by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar of Benapole Secondary School.
Along with the historical song of Amar Ekushey, 'Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February...Ami Ki Bhulite Pari', all the workers, including labor leader Shahid Ali, first laid wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar. They laid wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. They stood in silence for a while, paying deep respect to the memory of the language martyrs.
To commemorate the supreme sacrifice of the language martyrs on this day in 1952, these people will pay their respects barefoot at the Shaheed Minar, carrying flowers in their hands and humming the tune of 'Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February'.
Since February 21 was recognized as International Mother Language Day, it has also been celebrated internationally. Although February 21 is a day of mourning and sorrow for Bangladesh, it is a special day that reflects the glory of the sacrifices of the martyrs for the establishment of the rights of the Bengali language.
On February 21, 1952, students, youth and common people of East Bengal (then East Pakistan) took to the streets, ignoring Section 144 of the administration, demanding that 'Bangla' be made the state language.
