Saiful Islam, Baufal Correspondent:
A young man named Md. Sagar has been accused of being taken to Malaysia for torture and ransom after being promised a job with a good salary of 5 lakh taka. The hostage, Sagar, is the son of Idris Farazi of Diyara Kachua village in Chandradwip union of Baufal upazila of Patuakhali. A year and a half ago, expatriate Md. Amin Howlader, the son of Bashar Howlader of Daspara village, took him (Sagar) to Malaysia. Since then, the torture on Sagar started.
Beauty Begum, the mother of hostage Sagar in Malaysia, filed a written complaint with Bauphal Police Station today (Sunday), demanding the return of her son and punishment of the members of the broker gang.
Sagar's mother Beauty Begum complained, "My younger brother Sohrab Payada, his brother-in-law Amin Howlader, has been living in Malaysia for a long time. He has taken many people to Malaysia. My brother Sohrab is also tempting my son to get a job in Malaysia with a good salary. In exchange, he has to give 5 lakh taka to his brother-in-law. I raised the money by borrowing. My brother's brother-in-law Amin took my son to Malaysia a year and a half ago. Instead of giving him a good job abroad, Amin started torturing my son. He demanded 3.5 lakh taka for his son's release. He is not allowing us to communicate with him because he did not give the money. A few days ago, he called me and beat my son. My heart is breaking because of my son's crying. And my brother Sohrab is involved in all this. On Sohrab's advice, his brother-in-law is torturing my son by taking him hostage.
Pleading to get her son back, Beauty said, "I sent my son abroad for a good salary. I think I will live happily with my sick husband for the rest of my life on my son's salary. All my dreams are over. My brother and his brother-in-law are torturing my son abroad. They are not even letting us talk to him." Beauty Begum has demanded cooperation from the government to bring her son back and bring the culprits to justice.
The uncle of the hostage Sagar, Md. Yusuf, said, "My nephew Sagar was arrested in Thailand when broker Amin first illegally took him to Malaysia in 2023. After serving a month and 17 days in prison, the Thai government released him and sent him home. Later, he was taken to Malaysia on a valid visa. Amin started torturing my nephew in Malaysia. He demanded ransom."
Amin Hawlader's WhatsApp number was called several times to inquire about the complaint, but he did not receive the call. Sohrab Payada said, "I sent him abroad through my brother-in-law. I spent a lot of money to send him abroad. That money has not been paid yet. And I do not know anything about the torture."
In this regard, Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Kamal Hossain said, "We have received a written complaint. Legal action will be taken after investigation."
