Parbatipur Railway Police have recovered the body of a man named Bharat Chandra (50) with his hands tied and his head severed from the railway tracks in Parbatipur, Dinajpur.
His body was recovered from the Haldibari Railgate area south of Parbatipur town in Sakle on Tuesday, February 18. He is the son of the deceased Santosh Chandra of Kalikapur Kumarpara village in Chandipur union of the upazila.
According to the family and police sources of the deceased, Bharat Chandra left his house after 11 am on Monday and came to Parbatipur. His mobile phone had been switched off since evening. Around 8 am on Tuesday, local people saw him lying with his head severed and his hands tied with ropes in the railway shed area number 376/8 adjacent to the Haldibari railway gate in Parbatipur and informed the police. Parbatipur Railway Police reached the spot and recovered the headless body.
Senior ASP Faruk Ahmed of Dinajpur CID, OC of Railway Police Station Fakhrul Islam, OC of Model Police Station Abdus Salam, and Sub-Inspector of Railway Police Station Abdur Rouf visited the scene and were able to identify the deceased after trying for about three hours. Police initially believe that the miscreants killed him and threw him on the railway track, then beheaded him.
Ripon, the son of the deceased, said that his father was the organizing secretary of the union Awami League and a senior deputy assistant engineer/wayman at the railway department in Parbatipur.
Parbatipur Railway Police Station OC Fakhrul Islam said that the body has been recovered and sent to Dinajpur morgue to find out the exact cause of death. The cause will be known after receiving the autopsy report. Various police units are working to bring those involved in the incident under the law.
