Thakurgaon Correspondent: In the early hours of the great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, the general secretary and members of the District Bar Association came to pay their respects at the Shaheed Minar. They expressed their anger at not being able to place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar and pay their respects to the language martyrs. Later, they left the place from the Shaheed Minar to pay their respects at Thakurgaon Government College.
The incident took place at 11:55 pm on Thursday (February 20) at the Central Shaheed Minar of Thakurgaon Government Boys High School (Big Ground). Many others, like lawyers, came to pay their respects with flowers but were turned away. This has already sparked a storm of discussion and criticism on social media Facebook.
A letter from the Thakurgaon District Magistrate's Office has revealed that on the occasion of Martyr's Day and International Mother Language Day, wreaths will be placed at the Central Shaheed Minar at Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School Ground (Bormath) at 12:01 am and wreaths will be placed at the memorial of the language soldier Late Dabirul Islam located in front of the city's general library at around 12:30 pm. This letter has been sent to various educational institutions, government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutions in the district. According to that list and time, Entazul Haque, General Secretary of the District Bar Association, and other members came with flowers at 11:50 pm and saw that the area around the Central Shaheed Minar at Bormath was surrounded by a bamboo fence. Although others could not pay their respects at that time, the lawyers expressed their anger in the media.
However, another letter signed by Thakurgaon Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Soleman Ali mentioned that wreaths would be laid at the Thakurgaon Government College Shaheed Minar at 12:01 am and at the Thakurgaon Government Boys High School Ground (Big Math) Shaheed Minar at 6:00 am, but this letter was not given to the lawyers.
Complaining, Entazul Haque, General Secretary of the District Bar Association, said, "We have been given an official letter as part of the government program. According to that, we lawyers are coming to the Central Shaheed Minar to pay our respects. But when we arrived at the Shaheed Minar, we saw no one. The venue has been changed. But the administration did not inform us that the venue has been changed."
He also said that such negligence on the part of the district administration on such an important issue is not desirable in any way. The Bar Association has been informed through a letter and the venue has been changed to the Central Shaheed Minar. If the venue has been changed, why was we not informed? It is not right to inform us like this. It is very sad. No matter where the venue is, we will still pay tribute to the martyrs. However, such behavior is not desirable at all.
An assistant professor at Shibganj Degree College said, "Every year, we place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on the big field at 12:01 am. This time too, I came to pay my respects. When I arrived, I saw nothing. I think the change in the venue needed a lot of publicity. Then people wouldn't have come and paid their respects."
Some students, who did not want to be named, said, "We have known for a long time that the large field Shaheed Minar is the central Shaheed Minar. Every year, we paint alpana around the Shaheed Minar and at the entrance. But this time it looks different. The Shaheed Minar has been dirty since morning. No one has cleaned it. We students clean it with water in the afternoon and paint alpana. So that people from all walks of life can pay their respects to the best sons of the nation in the first hour. But at night, people come and pay their respects with flowers. The minar is surrounded by a fence.
They also said that this was not the case before. Since the fall of the government, division has started. Whoever does not like it does not go there or does not let anyone go. This cannot happen. A Shaheed Minar is for everyone. What has happened or is happening is very sad.
Someone wrote on Facebook, "Earlier they used to give flowers in the public library grounds, now they give them in the government college grounds, but why do we people
