Jhalakathi Correspondent: A voluntary blood donation program was organized in Jhalakathi on the occasion of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day. The blood donation program was organized by the District Health Department and in collaboration with the Red Crescent Society on Friday morning at the Jhalakathi Press Club Hallroom.

Civil Surgeon Dr. HM Zahirul Islam presided over the event, with Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman as the chief guest. Special guests were Police Superintendent Ujjwal Kumar Roy, Press Club President Kazi Khalilur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kawsar Hossain, officials of the district administration and health department, journalists from various print and electronic media, and members of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Jhalokati unit.
At that time, Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman said, "Although two separate states were formed with a majority Hindu and Muslim population based on the two-nation theory, we were still victims of discrimination. That was discrimination based on language, which led to us having to donate blood in 1952. As a result, we got our mother tongue, Bengali. In continuation of that blood, young people are now voluntarily donating blood to save people's lives. We applaud all of them for this noble act of donating blood."
