(Joypurhat) District Representative:
An allegation of an attack on a house in Khetlal, Joypurhat, and the breaking of a barbed wire fence and encroaching on land is against an uncle. The accused uncle is Raihan Ali, son of Altab Hossain of Vasila Purbapara village in Khetlal municipal area. On this, on February 22 (Saturday) at 11 am, the victim Ruby Akhter and her family held a press conference at the Khetlal Press Club.
In a written statement at the press conference, Ruby Akhter said, "I, Ruby Akhter, received a deed of 400 acres of land in 446 daga in Vasila Mouza from my grandmother Sahera Begum in 2019. In the same daga, my father Barik Fakir has been occupying a total of 5.50 acres of land through his paternal line and has paid the registration and rent. The land was previously low and uncultivated. A local influential person tried to buy my land at a low price but failed and bought other people's land around my land. While filling his lands with soil, he also forcibly filled my land.
I tried to settle this locally and filed a complaint with the Joypurhat Sadar Army Camp. They came to investigate and paid the value of the illegally filled soil to the influential person and in the presence of both parties, a written agreement was made on the condition that they would not interfere with my land. After that, the boundaries of my occupied land were determined through a surveyor and 70 banana trees were planted and maintained with a barbed wire fence. That influential group, unable to find a way out, took advantage of the fact that my father had no sons and tried to forcibly occupy my occupied land again by capturing my uncle Raihan Ali. They harassed my father and four sisters by filing complaints at the police station. They are even threatening us in various ways by throwing bricks and stones at our house in the dead of night. They are also humiliating us by making various indecent statements against my four sisters.
Later, on the night of February 20, the poles and barbed wire fence of my land were broken and the banana trees were cut down and destroyed. On February 22, my father's house was vandalized. We were helpless and approached the police station but did not get any redress. In this situation, my family and I are in a state of panic.
In this regard, Ruby Akhtar's father Barik Fakir said, "I am a poor van driver. I have no sons or children. I am being tortured physically and mentally in various ways. I want justice for this."
Denying the allegations, Raihan Ali said, "My elder brother and nephew are occupying the land, and they are making complaints against me in various places. I did not vandalize the house or cut down the trees."
