A public awareness meeting was held with fishermen to protect fish resources in the Hilsa Sanctuary of the Tentulia River in Bauphale, Patuakhali. Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Mahabub Alam (Jhanta) Talukder spoke as the chief guest at the meeting organized by the Upazila Fisheries Department at 11 am today at Nazirpur Union Parishad.
Md. Al Mamun, in-charge of Kalaiya Nai-Police Fari, ABM Mizanur Rahman, former general secretary of Baufal Press Club, Daily Prothom Alo, and Md. Tofazzel Hossain of Daily Manabzamin spoke as special guests. At that time, the speakers called on fishermen to be aware of protecting fish resources by stopping the use of illegal nets in the river from March 1 to April 30 so that Hilsa can safely complete their breeding and production activities in the Tentulia River sanctuary.
