Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day-2025 were celebrated at Comilla University (CUB) with due dignity and solemnity.
To pay tribute to the language martyrs, the university administration placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of Friday (February 21). Earlier, the university's Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Haider Ali and Treasurer Professor Dr. Mohammad Solaiman delivered brief speeches at the Shaheed Minar.
One by one, residence halls, departments, BNCC, Rover Scouts, and various organizations of the university paid tribute to the martyrs.
Treasurer Professor Mohammad Solaiman said, "A rare part of history is giving one's life for a language. For almost 16 years, we could not express our opinion under the yoke of fascism. Many people, including Shaheed Abdul Qayyum, gave their lives for the freedom we have regained through students. We have to take an oath to build ourselves again. Those who gave their lives from the Language Movement of 1952 to July will be successful only when we can build a beautiful Bangladesh."
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Haider Ali said, "This nation is the only nation in the world that has given blood for language. This is a matter of our pride. I pray for the forgiveness of the souls of those who gave their lives to achieve this great day. Many people have given blood on this land many times. They gave blood for language, they gave blood in 1971, and most recently on 24 July in the revolution. The main objective is that the rulers of this country should not be exploiters but should build a philanthropic governance. Because a philanthropic government is not formed, blood is being shed repeatedly. The people of this country have shown with their blood that we have to return to this path. We have to come to the path of creating a society without discrimination and exploitation. Only when the courts and government jobs are free from discrimination will the souls of the martyrs of July find peace. For this, we all have to fulfill our small responsibilities. I once again pray for the forgiveness of the souls of the language martyrs."
