Dumki (Patuakhali) Representative:
After 16 long years, elections were held for the traditional Pirtala Bazar Banik Samiti of Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali. Md. Bashir Uddin was elected as the president and Aminul Islam Shahin as the general secretary.
The voting was held on Monday (February 10) from 9 am to 4 pm.
In the election, 4 candidates contested for the post of President, 5 for Vice President, 4 for General Secretary, 2 for Joint General Secretary, 3 for Organizing Secretary, and 2 for Treasurer of the 11-member Executive Committee.
GM Abu Bakar Siddique was elected unopposed as the office secretary, Md. Habibur Rahman as the publicity and publication secretary, Md. Rajib as the sports affairs secretary, Rezaul Karim as the religious affairs secretary, and Mostafizur Rahman Panna as the social welfare secretary.
Out of 313 voters, 304 cast their votes. Bashir Uddin was elected as the president with 154 votes for each motorcycle and Aminul Islam Shahin was elected as the general secretary with 99 votes for each glasses.
Yakub Ali, Hafez Mahbubur Rahman and Ram Charan Gain were elected as vice-presidents, Saidur Rahman as joint general secretary, Khairul Alam as organizing secretary, and Md. Sohel Rana as treasurer.
The traditional Pirtala Bazar Banik Samity of Dumki Upazila Sadar held elections after a long 16 years. During the previous government, Upazila Awami League President Abul Kalam Azad and Organizing Secretary Abul Hossain used to form committees with their nominated persons while occupying the posts of President and General Secretary and run the activities. Therefore, a very joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere could be observed among the voters and candidates during this election. Voters stood in line since morning and expressed their excitement by voting for their expected candidates.
