Jasimuddin Iti, Thakurgaon Correspondent The biennial elections 2025 of Thakurgaon Reporters Unity, the apex organization of Thakurgaon district journalists, have been held.
Abdul Latif Litu, Thakurgaon correspondent of Bangladesh Pratidin and News 24, was elected as the president, and Arifuzzaman Arif, Thakurgaon correspondent of Ajker Business Bangladesh, was elected as the general secretary.
On Wednesday (February 26) afternoon, the organization's Chief Election Commissioner, Advocate Abdur Rahman Jilani, announced the new committee at the Upazila Muktijoddha Complex in front of Thakurgaon Shilpakala.
As there were no competing candidates in the organization's biennial elections, the candidates for 13 positions, including the president and general secretary, were declared elected unopposed and given the responsibility for the next 2 years.
Other elected candidates are Bijoy TV representative Mamunur Rashid Mintu as vice-president, Dainik Banglar Alo Barta Editor Sohel Tanvir as deputy general secretary, Mujibur Rahman as organizational secretary, Anwar Hossain as office secretary, Abdul Quader Jilani as treasurer, Jane Alam as publicity and information secretary, Jasimuddin Iti as activity and cultural secretary, NM Nurul Islam, Saidur Rahman, Abdus Samad and Rabiul Ehsan Ripon as executive members.
In that election, the presiding officer was Ekushey Television and Janakantha's Thakurgaon correspondent S. M. Jasim Uddin, and the assistant presiding officer was Munsur Ali, the district correspondent of the daily Alokit Sakal.
Abdul Latif Litu, the newly elected president of the committee, said, Thakurgaon Reporters Unity (TRU) is an independent organization of media workers. I served as the general secretary of the organization in its inception. Then I was elected as the president in the 2022 elections. This time, with the love of all the voters, I have been given the responsibility of the same position again for the next two years. I will always try to be by the side of not only the members of the organization but also all the media workers of the district, in their joys and sorrows.
