Adviser to the Movement to Overthrow Fascism and former judge Abdus Salam Mamun said, "Even though Hasina fled, her allies are still alive." As a result of the past 17 years of movement, the people's victory was achieved on August 5. Through the people's victory, children and genocide perpetrators were forced to flee. Dictatorship has been driven out of the country. Now we have to build our country. For the past 17 years, the people have lost their voting rights. We have to return their voting rights and form a government elected by the people's votes.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the representative conference of the Chittagong North, South and Metropolitan branches of the Anti-Fascism Movement at the S Rahman Hall of the Chittagong Press Club today (February 22) at 11:30 am.
Jahidul Karim Kochi, member secretary of the interim committee of the Chittagong Press Club, spoke as a special guest at the meeting held under the chairmanship of MA Hashem Raju, chief coordinator of the central committee, and under the direction of journalist Alamgir Noor, the organization's Bangladesh organizational secretary. He said, "We have been fighting for the restoration of democracy and voting rights for 17 years. We are still in the movement, the movement will continue until the people can exercise their voting rights. Therefore, a people's government must be established in the country through voting rights."
Speaking as a special guest, Chittagong Metropolitan Journalists Union President and BSS Bureau Chief Mohammad Shah Nawaz said, "Awami League has destroyed the country's political and economic structure. They have turned Bangladesh into a looting and mafia state. Although Sheikh Hasina has fled, some of her cronies are still in the country, who can attack the country again. Everyone should be vigilant about that."
In his keynote address, blind Saifuddin Mohammad Emdad, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, "Our anti-fascist and anti-discrimination movement will continue on the soil of Bangladesh until the dream of establishing a new humane democratic state structure free from tyranny, which was stained with blood for the past 17 years, through the emptying of the hearts of thousands of students, is realized."
MA Hashem Raju said, "To realize the dream of a new Bangladesh, all democratic forces must rise above party lines and unite. We dream of building a new Bangladesh. Bangladesh will move forward by wiping out all the storms and sorrows of the last 17 years, hand in hand with this new generation. We will not stop, we will fulfill our dreams."
The Bangladesh Organizing Secretary of the organization, former student leader Alamgir Noor, said, "In the last 17 years, the dictatorial Hasina government has destroyed the rule of law, democracy, voting rights, human rights, freedom of speech, and the constitutional rights of the people. Even now, the allies of that dictatorship are still alive in the important structures of the state. As soon as possible, the head of the interim government, Dr. Yunus, you will quickly arrange for the compulsory retirement of the killer dictator's allies who are sitting in the highest state structure of the country, including the Secretariat, or a terrible mass movement will be formed."
