Sadrul Ain:
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called for the completion of minimum reforms to repair the state quickly and for holding elections acceptable to all to return to a democratic system.
He made these remarks while joining the party's extended meeting virtually from London at the LD Hall premises of the National Parliament on Thursday (February 27).
Addressing the party leaders and activists, Khaleda Zia said, "Even though I am in the UK due to illness, I am always by your side. For 15 long years, you have continuously struggled for democracy and my freedom, and countless leaders and activists have given their lives, have been subjected to oppression and torture, and are still roaming the balconies of the courts for justice despite being burdened with nearly 1.25 lakh false cases. Not only the party but also the nation will remember your sacrifice forever."
Begum Zia said, "I express my gratitude to Allah for being able to come together after the departure of the fascist government after 6 long years. At the same time, she paid tribute to the martyrs of the anti-fascist movement, including the July Revolution."
Addressing the leaders and activists, Khaleda Zia also said, "In my absence, Tarique Rahman has organized the party well. So, do not do anything that will make the struggle of so many days in vain."
Khaleda Zia, mentioning that the party is bigger than the individual, and the country is bigger than the party, called for unity by forgetting petty differences.
He said, "The fascists are still engaged in deep conspiracies to thwart the achievements of the July Movement. Everyone must unite through steel-solid unity and thwart these conspiracies."
The party must be built in a coherent manner to provide leadership as before. The country must be built into a livable, developed democratic state system through brotherhood, not revenge.
