There have been allegations of vandalism at the office of the Public Rights Council in Gournadi.
Nurul Amin, the organizing secretary of the Barisal district branch of the Public Rights Council, filed a written complaint with the Gournadi Police Station on Monday, 10/2/2024, regarding the vandalism incident.
According to the written complaint filed with the police station, a tin-shed room was rented near the Gournadi bus stand about three months ago to conduct the activities of the Upazila Public Rights Council. The room had tables, chairs and other official furniture.
The charges are against Khalil Bepari of Palrodi village of the upazila and his wife, Firoza Begum, a member of the Upazila Women's Party, and seven or eight others.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Gournadi Model Police Station OC Md. Yunus Mia said that initially, he confirmed that one party had taken out the furniture of the office and locked it due to a dispute over the ownership of the land. However, he assured that he would investigate the incident and take action.
On the other hand, Nurul Amin, leader of the Goranadi Upazila Public Rights Council, said, "Land ownership is their own matter. Where there is an official signboard of a political party and our mobile number is given, they could have at least given us a phone call to inform us." He demanded justice through a fair investigation into this heinous act.
