Miscreants shot and robbed a gold merchant of one lakh taka and 200 bhoris of gold in the capital's Banasree area.
The gold merchant who was shot has been identified as Anwar Hossain. He has been rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment.
Rampura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ataur Rahman Akand shared this information with the media on Sunday (February 23) night.
Locals said that around 10:30 pm, three motorcycles blocked the path of a gold merchant on Road No. 7 of D Block in Banasree. The miscreants then tried to take the gold from the gold merchant. When he refused to give them the gold, they shot the merchant. The miscreants then got on a motorcycle and fled with the gold and money.
When asked about this, Rampura Police Station OC Mohammad Ataur Rahman Akand told the media that gold trader Anwar Hossain has a jewelry shop in Banasree. He was returning home alone after closing the shop. At that time, miscreants on three motorcycles blocked Anwar Hossain's path. Among them, a man wearing a red helmet fired three rounds at the businessman.
He said the victim, Anwar Hossain, was shot twice in both legs and once in the back. He was rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Quoting the injured businessman, the OC said that he had 200 gold bars and one lakh taka in cash. After the shooting, the miscreants took the gold and money and left.
A video of the incident has already gone viral on social media. The 31-second video shows a total of seven people on three motorcycles. All of them were wearing helmets. At one point during the scuffle with gold trader Anwar, a man wearing a red helmet shot him with a pistol. After the shooting, the remaining members of the miscreants advised them to leave the place. Then, everyone left together on three motorcycles.
