The country's highest civilian honor, the Independence Award, is being awarded to slain BUET student Abrar Fahad.
Abrar Fahad, known as a symbol of standing against injustice and a reflection of free thought, was beaten to death on his own campus by some members of the student organization of the fallen government.
On Monday (March 3), Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of the interim government, posted a post on social media Facebook commemorating Abrar Fahad's sacrifice, including receiving the Independence Medal.
He wrote in the post, "A symbol of courage to stand against injustice, a reflection of free thought—Abrar Fahad. Being awarded the posthumous Swadhinata Padak 2025 is a recognition of his sacrifice."
