Netrakona Representative:
I never thought I would be able to return to the land of Madan alive. With the mercy of Allah and your prayers, I was able to come home. I thank Allah for this. I am even more grateful to those mothers and sisters who fasted and prayed to Allah for my release.
After a long and a half decades, returning from a long and a half years of praying for death, former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar said these words with emotion on Sunday, returning to his village home in Madan upazila on a three-day visit. The past fascist dictatorship Hasina government tortured me a lot, showed greed, yet I remained on the righteous path. That is why I was sentenced to various terms, including hanging, in several fabricated false cases. I was in detention for 17 years. After the fall of the Hasina government, which left the country on August 5 in the 2024 July Revolution, the infamous murderer left the country and the interim government took power, I received justice in the High Court. I was proven innocent and acquitted in all cases. I was released from Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj) on January 16, performed Umrah Hajj and came to you after undergoing treatment in Singapore. We must remain united under the leadership of Mr. Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP, to re-establish democracy in the country. At that time, thousands of BNP leaders and activists from his area welcomed him with flowers. On Monday, he joined a reception program of lakhs of people in Khaliajuri Haor Upazila. On Tuesday afternoon, Lutfuzzaman Babar will leave his home and join a public reception program in Mohanganj Upazila before returning to Dhaka.
After his release, colorful arches were built in various streets, markets and markets in his constituency, which are still adorning it.
He was first elected as a Member of Parliament from Netrokona-4 constituency with the symbol of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1991. Later, in 2001, he was elected as an MP in the 8th National Parliament election and served as the State Minister for Home Affairs in Begum Khaleda Zia's cabinet. He has been elected as a Member of Parliament by popular vote many times.
