A huge farmers' rally was organized by the Char Bishnupur Union Krishak Dal of Sadarpur Upazila of Faridpur district as part of the farmers' rally at the union level across the country to protect the interests of farmers and organize the largest farming community in Bangladesh.
On Saturday afternoon, agriculturist Hasan Zafir Tuhin, president of the central committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Farmers' Party, was the chief guest at a farmers' rally organized by several thousand farmers in a field next to Joybangla Bazar in Char Bishnupur Union of Sadarpur Upazila of Faridpur.
Shahidul Islam Babul, General Secretary of the Krishak Dal Central Committee, spoke as the main speaker at the rally.
Among others, Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, Joint General Secretary of the Central Women's Party, Krishak Dal Central Committee Vice-President and former MP Khandaker Nasirul Islam, and the party's central, district and upazila leaders spoke.
The chief guest said that although 60 percent of the country's population is involved in agriculture, no organization has been formed to protect the interests of farmers. As a result, they have to constantly suffer losses while cultivating crops. Calling for the formation of organizations to protect the interests of farmers, he said that if the country wants to improve, agriculture must be given importance. He said that Tarique Rahman has given 31-point proposals on agriculture and farmers, understanding its importance.
The main speaker of the rally, Krishak Dal General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul, said, "I spoke with Sheikh Hasina's eyes during the bad times of BNP. During Sheikh Hasina's government, I have faced 138 cases and shed blood repeatedly." He also said, "I will stand by the people of Faridpur-4 constituency even with my last drop of blood and want to be a companion in your happiness and sorrow."
Addressing the current interim government, he said, "In order to establish the fair rights of the people, the interim government must arrange for elections very soon. Do not delay in the name of reforms and announce the election date very soon. The longer you are trying to stay in power, the lower your popularity is. They said that there is no alternative to elections to improve the situation in various issues including law and order."
At this time, the chief guest, Krishak Dal Central Committee President, agriculturist Hasan Zafir Tuhin, requested the rally to elect Shahidul Islam Babul from Faridpur 4 constituency.
