Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said, 'Students in Bangladesh are afraid to speak out against Chhatra Shibir, lest they cut their throats at any moment.'
He made these remarks after paying tribute to the language martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of February 21, the Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.
Nasir Uddin Nasir said, 'The Language Movement Martyrs' Day of Bayanna was later recognized as International Mother Language Day. The atmosphere of that time, the idea that the martyrs sacrificed their lives to establish, is still present.'
He said, "You have seen that a student was attacked for expressing his opinion at MC College in Sylhet. In 1952, too, a party obstructed their opinion during the movement to express their opinion in their own language."
The Chhatra Dal leader said, 'After July-August, we think that people from all over the world, including Bangladesh, will be able to express their opinions. We saw in the media about the attack on MC College in Sylhet, a student posted a status on Facebook, "Shibir's secret politics are blood-sucking politics." For this, Shibir terrorists threatened him, "I haven't cut any blood, I'll start with you." Later, Shibir terrorists threatened media workers to change his statement.'
He also said, "A team from the student group spoke to the injured student. The student is still in fear."
He said, "On this day, we believe that everyone will have an open mind and will be able to express their opinions. That should not be hindered in any way. That is why we all have to be careful."
Earlier, at 1:45 am, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists led by President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir paid tribute at the Shaheed Minar.
Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib said, 'On the occasion of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, we, the leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal, have gathered at Shaheed Minar in an orderly manner after a long time.
