DB police have arrested Syeda Monalisa, wife of former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain and vice-president of the central committee of Jubo Mohila League. She was arrested from her house on Eskaton Road in Dhaka on Sunday night. She was reportedly handed over to Meherpur district police on Monday morning.
Monalisa has three cases against her on several charges, including an attack on anti-discrimination students and the public in Meherpur. Local people expressed joy and happiness when news of her arrest spread.
Awami League leaders and locals allege that Farhad Hossain and his wife Syeda Monalisa established a reign of terror in Meherpur district. They exploited people in various ways. The former public administration minister has amassed billions of taka and mountains of wealth through tenders, recruitment, transfers and online gambling across the country, including Meherpur.
