Lion Md. Faruk Rahman, the top leader of the 12-party alliance and chairman of the Bangladesh Labor Party, said, “The market syndicate left behind by Sheikh Hasina must be dismantled immediately so that the prices of commodities can be brought within the reach of the common people.” He complained, “The prices of daily necessities are not decreasing due to the Awami Traders Syndicate.”
He made these remarks while addressing a special guest at a citizens' rally organized by the 'Save the Country, Save the People' movement in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Saturday (March 1) to protest the rising prices of daily necessities.
Lion Faruk said, "The lives of the poor and needy are in turmoil today. The expenses of the working people during this month of fasting, Ramadan, are exceeding their daily income. If you cannot control the market, the poor and needy will pull the rope of your power." He urged the government to take immediate effective steps to control the prices of commodities.
At that time, he called on the government to hold national elections quickly, saying, "The longer the elections are delayed, the more the crisis in the country will increase."
