BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, in the last 15 years, Bangladesh has sold a lot to India, but the Awami League could not bring a single drop of water from Teesta. Not only Teesta, India has built dams upstream of 54 similar rivers. They use dams to take away water and generate electricity. And the people of our country cannot grow crops here. They are deprived of their livelihood. Fishermen cannot catch fish. Every person has to face hardship today.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest while participating in the 'Jago Bahe, Save Teesta' program at the Teesta Rail Bridge Point in Kaunia, Rangpur on Monday (February 17) afternoon.
The Teesta River Protection Movement is holding a 48-hour program simultaneously at 11 points in the Rangpur region, including Kaunia, where the Teesta River flows, demanding the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan and a fair share of water.
